Bamboo Building Intensive

A beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop focused on structural bamboo
construction.
Participants will gain direct experience with:
● Bamboo preservation techniques
● Post and beam joinery
● Pin and lashing methods
● Roofing systems
● Working with tools and treated bamboo poles
● Building with purpose, precision, and teamwork
Tools and some meals will be provided.
No experience necessary — just a willingness to learn!

Kuboo Basket Weaving: November 2, 2025
Weave Kudzu and Bamboo together to create your own personalized and unique KuBoo basket at our guided workshop.
In this class students will learn how to make a circular basket from wildcrafted kudzu and bamboo. Aaron McCarty, Owner of Carolina Bamboo, will provide cured and fire treated bamboo splits for incorporation into the kuboo basket. These splits will have been through four splitting techniques. Masa Wari, Hira Wari, Habatori, and Mentori. These techniques are traditional Japanese techniques that Aaron learned while apprenticing with Keiji Oshima. Aaron will give a short demonstration of the first two splits starting with a whole cane of bamboo so that students will better understand the work and skill that goes into producing these hand splits.
