At a Glance

When: April 4th, 10 am – 3 pm

Where: Seattle Chinese Garden, 6000 16th Ave SW, West Seattle (South Seattle College North Entrance)

What to Bring: A lunch, tools (pruning shears, loppers, hand pruners, pruning saws), and safety glasses

Wear: work clothes and sturdy shoes

 

The Breakdown

The Seattle Chinese Garden and the PNW Chapter are teaming up to offer a bamboo care and construction workshop.  Attendees will get a tour of the Chinese Garden and their bamboo collection, plus a lecture from Bamboo Expert James Clever, former Bamboo Society President, on how to maintain bamboo to keep it looking its best.  The lecture and demonstration will cover proper thinning, pruning, and mulching techniques, as well as a rundown of bamboo pests.  Afterwards, everyone will get to try their own hand at it on the Garden’s groves, followed by a hands-on class on different bamboo fence-building techniques.
